Magpies turned over by Bont

The Magpies suffered more disappointment on Saturday afternoon when they fell to a 8-31 home defeat against Pontarddulais RFC. Unlike the previous weekend in the defeat at Pembroke there were plenty of positives to Tumble's play but mistakes and a creaking scrum proved the difference between the two sides. Out of the 31 points scored by the opposition 21 of those were avoidable if it hadn't been for some costly defensive errors and a struggling scrum. The boys played with plenty of endeavor and effort but low on confidence nothing seemed to click when it needed to. After a first 20 minutes when Pontarddulais dominated territory and possession Tumble came back into the game and went into the interval 3-12 behind thanks to a penalty from outside half Mitch Jones on the stroke of halftime.

The second half started well for the Magpies with them showing purpose and direction to their play however a freak try for Bont after 46 minutes opened up the score to 3-19. The score was further opened with a penalty try given to the visitors with Tumble's scrum struggling on its own try line. To their credit the Magpies never gave up and finally went over for a well deserved try of their own when scrum half Iwan Morgan (or maybe second row Nathan Willard) got the downward pressure to ground the ball over the white wash after a rolling maul. Tumble now had their tails up and were probing the Bont defense looking for the next score but with 76 minutes on the clock and deep within Black and Ambers territory an intercepted pass saw a Bont player sprint 80 metres to score under the sticks. Special mention to the Youth boys Osian Flint and Morgan Davies who came off the bench and showed up well in the second half.

The boys now need to dust themselves down and refocus in time for next week's home game against Fishguard and Goodwick RFC. A fixture that is looking increasingly important as the Magpies attempt to turn around their poor start to the season. Kick-off is at 2/30pm, come down the Parc and support the boys.
