Magpies labour to win against Llanybydder

Tumble welcomed Llanybydder to Parc y Mynydd Mawr for their first game in five weeks and only their second in eight. The lack of recent game time was evident in the Magpies play as their laboured to a 15-13 win against bottom placed Llanybydder. Tumble started off well when winger Mike Edwards went over for his sixth try of the season after only 2 minutes played. With the conversion missed Llanybydder were back on level terms after 10 minutes when they scored an unconverted try of their own. With Tumble missing chance after chance to exploit the overlap Llanybydder took the lead after 25 minutes with another unconverted try. Five minutes later Magpies centre Steffan Price scored the home side's second try which was duly converted by captain and outside half Steven Hewitt. The score was now 12-10 to Tumble and this is how it remained at half-time.

Hewitt slotted over a penalty early in the second half to extend Tumble's lead to 15-10 before Llanybydder pulled the score back to within two points a few minutes later with a penalty of their own. Tumble were now labouring and unable to get any pattern to their play. Llanybydder were dominating territory and belying their lowly league position and this was the pattern of the game for the final 30 minutes. The Green and Reds could easily have won the game if there had been a little more accuracy in their final pass. With five minutes to play Tumble hearts were in mouths when Llanybydder were awarded a penalty goal, luckily for the Magpies the ball cannoned off the upright before being cleared to touch. Tumble held on until, much to the relief of their supporters referee Peter Swain sounded the final whistle and with it awarded them four more hard earned league points. The Magpies now wait a fortnight for their next game when they travel to Loughor RFC.
