The Magpies suffered derby day disappointment in front of a big crowd at a rain soaked Parc y Mynydd Mawr on Saturday, losing 13 - 16 to old rivals Pontyberem RFC. Whilst Tumble could not be faulted for their effort a number of handling and decision making errors when in good field positions put pay to several scoring opportunities. With a number of players playing out of position to cover injuries and unavailability Tumble were unable to get a hold of the match and Bont benefited from better control and decision making when in key areas of the field. Bont took the lead after nine minutes when they slotted over a penalty kick but the Magpies were back level pegging five minutes later when captain Steven Hewitt made the score 3-3 with another penalty. A second penalty kick for Pontyberem took the Blues and Blacks into the break 3-6 ahead.

The second half was another tight affair with the Magpies struggling to make anything from good field positions. Pontyberem extended the lead after 50 minutes with another penalty before Tumble centre Steffan Price brought the Magpies back within three points (6-9) a minute later with a penalty kick. On sixty five minutes Bont scored a converted try to make the score 6-16 and apparently outside Tumble's reach. This try however seemed to galvanise Tumble to put concerted pressure on the Pontyberem line and with a bit more luck and composure they would have got over the whitewash. The Magpies finally got the try their effort deserved on the final whistle when flanker Darren Williams dived over from close range, a score which was coverted by Price. Unfortunately as soon as the conversion was over referee Mike Davies blew up for full time and left Tumble and their supporters heartbroken.
