Blood, Sweat & Mud - Piod Pinc battle out a win v. Deri

Third placed Deri RFC arrived at Parc y Mynydd Mawr two points behind the Piod Pinc and after hammering Clwb Rygbi Cymry Caerdydd 0-41 in Cardiff the previous weekend would have been confident of leaving Cwm Gwendraeth with the win. What they encountered was a Tumble side determined not to lose their undefeated home record and also to secure second place in the league going into the mid season split. In what proved to be a titanic tussle, with both sides playing with huge physical commitment Tumble went into the break 12-5 up thanks to tries from number 8 Angharad Williams and pacey fullback Jess Thomas. Hooker and captain Hannah Stephens added one conversion to complete the first half scoring.

The second half saw Deri up the tempo and keep the Piod Pinc pinned in their half for long passages of play. With playing conditions deteriorating as the field gradually turned into a mud bath Tumble's effort in tackling anything in a yellow shirt with sheer commitment paid dividends as all Deri could register on the scoreboard was a try after 65 minutes. The conversion was missed making the score 12-10 to the Piod Pinc. In a final 15 minutes where both sides had chances to score it was the Piod Pinc who held firm to secure the win despite a number of girls leaving the field with injuries.

Tumble now qualify in the top half of the division after the mid season split along with Deri, Pontarddulais and table topping Morriston. With the league restarting in January it poses to be a difficult run in but with Morriston and Pontarddulais yet to visit Parc y Mynydd Mawr anything is possible.
