Piod Pinc win big up North!

The Piod Pinc played their first fixture of the Bowl on Sunday afternoon where they made a long journey up north to play Shotton Steel RFC Ladies. The mighty Piods got off to strong defensive start as the Ref blew his first whistle. The home side got off to a great start, where they were attacked well, but the defensive effort for the Piods was shown through out. With the forwards powering their way through, 5 minutes in, Hannah Stephens spotted a gap and powered her way down centre of the field, but was brought down just short of the line. Thankfully Darcy Hardy was there to support, Hannah Stephens popped the ball up, this resulted Darcy Hardy scoring the first try of the game. Hannah Stephens added the 2 points. The forwards made huge tackles, resulting in the home side being stuck in their own half. A turnover meant that the backs could take advantage where they passed down the line to speedster Pheobe West who sprinted down the wing, a gave a fantastic off load which lead to winger Sharee Treharne crossing the whitewash. 10 minutes in the score was 12-0 to Clwb Rygbi y Tymbl. 19 mins in, there was a line out 10m away from the tryline, the forwards fought to secure the ball. The pack powered towards the line, but it skipper Tina Thomas who dived over the line. Hannah Stephens slotted the ball between the posts. Number 8 Amy Jones and Flanker Catrin Rees stormed their way through the defensive line numerous times, but again with the support of the forwards it was Tina Thomas who added the 5 points to the scoreboard. Centre Hannah Stephens added the extra points. 30 minutes in and Shotton Steel had the ball for the first time this half, showing the girls what they're really made of, but the defensive pressure was too much for the home side where they knocked the ball on. A massive carry from prop Rhiannon Frost resulted in vice captain Darcy Hardy crossing the tryline for the second time of the game. Hannah Stephens added the extras. Making the score 33-0 at half time.

The referee blew his whistle for the second half and it was non- stop defensive pressure from the Piods, Shotton steel cracked and knocked the ball forward. A huge push came from Piods scrum and drove the home side back. Flanker Louise Rees-James dived over the line for the first time in her rugby career. The score was 38-0 at 50mins. Billie Alexander broke through the defensive line, Outside Half Darcy Hardy and Center Hannah Stephens linked up well but it was Hannah Stephens who spotted the gap and crossed the line. She converted her own try. At 54 minutes in the score was 45-0 to Tumble RFC. 58 minutes in and Shotton Steel break through the line but Flanker Catrin Rees makes a massive tackle, Hannah Stephens steals the ball. Darcy Hardy makes a huge run and scoring under the posts. Stephens added the extras. The last try of the game came from fullback Pheobe West, who darted her way down the wing. The game ended on a 59-0 win to Clwb Rygbi Y Tymbl.

The girls are back in league action this Sunday when they welcome Deri Diamonds to Parc y Mynydd Mawr, kick-off 2.30pm. Come and support the girls on Mother's Day free cake, tea and coffee available.
