The combined Tumble/Cefneithin Under 12’s played their first ever final on Sunday against Llandeilo RFC at Ammanford. From the first whistle Tumble/Cefen took the game to their opponents with a strong run from captain Sion Yip nearly resulting in a try. The Gwendraeth valley boys pressured Llandeilo with excellent defence and tackling making it difficult for the young Ravens to get going. Tumble/Cefen’s tenacious forwards made a nuisance of themselves and caused problems for the Llandeilo pack throughout the game.
Due to the all-round team effort and the excellent running of backs Jude John, Osian Dyson, James Evans and captain Yip, who lead by example Tumble/Cefen crashed over for two tries in the first half which made the score 15-0 at the interval.
The second half started in the same vain as the first with Tumble/Cefen on top, but as the game wore on Llandeilo started to creep back into the match with the Gwendraeth team’s discipline costing them on several occasions. Tiredness set in and with 15 minutes to go Llandeilo had closed the score to 15-10. A number of impact players were introduced and a massive defensive shift from Tumble/Cefen was rewarded when the ball was turned over and a huge upfield kick eased the pressure and swung the momentum of the match. Llandeilo were now pinned in their own 22 and a break saw Curtis Edwards burst through the defensive line to score a try which sealed the victory.
Every player within the squad gave 110% and thoroughly deserved the win in what was a fast-paced physical game played in beautiful conditions.
