Youth out of Bowl

The Youth XV made the short trip to Cefnethin RFC on Saturday afternoon to play their local rivals in Round 1 of the National Youth Bowl. It was a tough start for the young Magpies, who were missing a number of players through injury and unavailability against their more experienced opponents and Cefen took the lead with a converted try in the opening moments of the game. It wasn't however long before Tumble fullback Lewis Moore had brought the Magpies back within four points with a well struck penalty goal, 7-3 to Cefen. The Magpies now had their tails up and it wasn't much later that Tumble flanker Liam Jones scored a try from 20 yards after a typically powerful run broke through the Cefen defensive line. Moore slotted over the conversation to give Tumble a 7-10 lead. Cefnethin now upped the pressure on Tumble's defence and this only intensified when Moore was shown the yellow card for a deliberate knock down of an opposition pass on his own tryline. The Cefen try soon followed and it was 14-10 to the hosts at halftime.

In the second half the strength of the Cefnethin backline shone through and they scored a further three tries, one of which was converted to give a final score of 31-10 to the Green and Golds. The boys are now out of the Bowl for another season but this young Magpies side should be proud of the shift they put in.

Attention now shifts back to the league and the visit of Hendy RFC Youth to Parc y Mynydd Mawr next Saturday, kick off 2.30pm. Please come along and support the boys.
