A dozen of the best sees the Magpies march on

A clinical performance by the Magpies was rewarded with a bonus point win against lowly Bynea. From the outset, Bynea were under pressure and, with a plentiful supply of ball, wing Nicky Allinson scored wide out for Steve Hewitt to add the extras after five minutes play.

Tumble’s strength in depth was evident and second row Jack Tucker carried the ball well along with Ryan Lewis whose direct running caused problems all afternoon. Fifteen minutes had gone when all Tumble’s backs combined to release Allinson for his second try, unconverted and, two minutes later, a break by Cavill was carried on by acting captain Rees, the ball was recycled on the Magpies ten metre line and with full back James Carter coming into the line at pace he galloped the length of the field for a converted try.

Bynea tackled manfully and the pack showed determination in each tackle. They got their just reward when, following a catch and drive, they worked their way into Magpie twenty two, the ball came loose and Kieran Cullen scored a converted try.

Half an hour had gone when Allison got his third after some good work by centre Richard Davies put him free. Two minutes later, with the Magpies ripping Bynea’s defence to pieces, flanker Lee Colling scored under the posts for the bonus point try. Steve Hewitt converted.

Tumble’s back row worked hard and blindside young Dafydd Griffiths tackled and Kiern Richards carried well. Allison’s fourth try came on the stroke of half time when he rounded off a flowing movement which went forty metres upfield. Steve Hewitt kicked his fourth conversion making the half time score a comfortable 36-7.

The second half provided much the same fare and with five minutes of the restart, two further tries were added, the first following a break by Alex Jones in midfield for Morgan Davies, the second was a break by Alex Jones himself. Steve Hewitt converted both.

Tumble’s bench was used and the mountainous Mathew Samuel made telling metres as second row. Replacement Mike Powell made hard metres supported by Willard and Griffiths. One the hour, a chip ahead by Hewitt saw full back Carter outstrip the on rushing defence to score wide out. The forwards wanted to get in on the act and Jack Tucker had one disallowed. Tumble pressed for more and, with ten minutes left, Nicky Allinson got his fifth with a simple run in after a break from Richard Davies.

The final three minutes saw further tried from Michael Edwards scything run, scoring wide out and Iwan Morgan charging through from twenty metres unopposed.

A competent performance but injuries to centre Alex Jones and wing Aled Price gives some cause for concern.

Tumble’s man of the match performance goes to five try wing Nicky Allinson. Tumble meet table leaders Trimsaran at Parc Y Mynydd Mawr next Saturday with Trim looking for the double against the Magpies, kick off 2.30pm. Come and support the boys.
