Disappointment as Piod Pinc lose at CRCC

CRCC kick off and manage to keep possession until Piod Pinc captain Tina Thomas forces them off the pitch, the Piod Pinc are on the defence with CRCC pressing hard. CRCC catch the ball from the line out and put together a good passage of play resulting which results in the opening try, 7-0. The Piods kick off and CRCC regather possession. Forcing the Piods to defend within their 22 CRCC break through the defensive line and score an unconverted try, 12-0. The Piod Pinc instantly retaliate with a good passage of play. Utilising the whole pitch width of the pitch the ball is passed to Meleri Hicks who cuts in from the right wing to score in the left corner, the conversation is missed, 12-5. Five minutes later CRCC charge at the Piods, a few missed tackles sees them score their third try, 17-5. The Piods are digging deep within their own half but hard work pays off and their work the ball to the dangerous Meleri Hicks who runs from the half for a superb try, 17-10. CRCC react to score their fourth try within minutes, 22-10. CRCC have procession and after working several quick passes their second row receives the ball on the 22 line and runs through gap in Piods defence to score a fifth try, 29-10. The score is now running away from the Piods and a quick tap penalty is taken by CRCC, a chip and catch and they score another try, 36-10. The restart gives possession back to CRCC who are now in dominant mood, their forwards suck in the Piods leaving space for them to get it to their dangerous backs and they utilise the space scoring their seventh on the half time whistle. 43-10 at the break after a disappointing first half.

The second half starts with coach Steve Hewitt making changes and the brining impact players off the bench. The first scrum of the second half sees the Piods hook the ball to Tina Thomas who scoops it up and runs down the wing for 20 metres to score a well taken try, 43-15. An injury break for the Piods, CRCC restart with a quick ball and despite the best efforts of the Piod Pinc to keep them out they score another try to make the score 50-15. The Piods contest the CRCC ball and win back procession, Ellie James receives the ball and makes a break but gets bought down by 3 players. Closely supported by Louise Rees-James from the resultant ruck Tina Thomas gets the ball out to Zoe Messer and it’s Piod Pinc’s turn to score, 50-20. After an evenly contested 20 mins of play CRCC score yet again, 57-20. The Piods start to turn the pressure up on CRCC looking for a try to put more respectability on the scoreline. Several runs from players such as Billie-Jo Alexander, Nikki Howells, Catrin Rees sees CRCC forced to defend their try line. The Piod Pinc’s whole pack works together taking the ball up time after time before Zoe Messer is supported over the line to score her second try and make the final score, 57-25.

A disappointing day at the office but the girls have a week to regather themselves before focussing on the next challenge and the long trip east next Sunday to Cilfynydd RFC Ladies, kick off 2.30pm. Come and support the girls.
