After last week's run out in the Cup it was back to the league on Saturday afternoon as the Magpies made the trip to Furnace United in Llanelli. With 16 senior players unavailable, mainly through injury there was an unfamiliar look behind the scrum. The Magpies played with great effort throughout the game with two tries from hooker Rhys Lewis,  both of which were converted by outside half Steven Hewitt seeing Tumble go into the interval 7-14 in the lead.
An early second half penalty saw the lead extended to 7-17 but a soft try was unfortunately conceded which gave the home side momentum and a couple of penalties later they had taken a 20-17 lead. With 6 minutes to go the Cherries went over for another converted try which further stretched their lead to 27-17. The Magpies bravely rallied and went over for a further try from openside flanker Dafydd Griffiths but it was too late to effect the outcome of the game. A good shift from the forwards with the Willard brothers prominent throughout. Joint players of the match go to back rowers Jack Tucker and Dafydd Griffiths who both put in impressive shifts.
Next weekend the Magpies welcome Amman United to Parc y Mynydd Mawr for what is likely to be another keenly contested game. Hopefully our injury crisis will start to lessen over the coming weeks.
