Fixture

The Magpies welcomed Division 3 West Central team Nantymoel RFC to Parc y Mynydd Mawr on Saturday afternoon in the WRU National Division 3 Cup. Making eight changes from the team that played their last league fixture to allow for squad rotation Tumble came up short against their Ogmore Valley opponents, 22-42. After conceding an early try Tumble took the lead 8-5 with a penalty from outside half Steven Hewitt and a driving maul try from hooker Sam Cavill. Unfortunately, another three first half tries for Nant saw them go into the break 8-26 ahead. 

After being under the cosh for the majority of the first half the Magpies started the second period in determined mood with replacement back rower Jack Tucker going over after a well worked team try following an early Nant penalty. Hewitt stepped up to nail the conversion, 15-29. A penalty to Nantymoel saw them open the score back up to 15-32. On 74 minutes a kick and chase saw Hewitt through for a nice try which he converted himself to close the difference to ten points, 22-32. A penalty for Nant gave them breathing space before young Magpies flanker Elis Vaughan was somewhat harshly sent off for an apparent tip tackle. Down to 14 men Tumble conceded a last play converted try in the right hand corner to give a one sided look to the scoreline. Final score 22-42 and a disappointing day and the office. It will however have given vital game time to a number of players.
