Magpies down Saints to get back to winning ways

The Magpies returned from Pembrokeshire on Saturday night happy having beaten St Davids RFC 12 - 46 in the WRU Division 3 Cup. Having not won since the opening weekend of the season a win was desperately needed to bring some confidence back to the squad, especially taking into account the recent heartbreaking injury time defeats to Amman United and New Dock Stars in the league. The first half saw the Magpies play some good stuff into a strong headwind. Young Full back Dafydd Thomas went over a try in addition to two from captain Steffan Price,  who was making his first start since returning from injury. Experienced outside half Steven Hewitt added two conversions to make the score 13-19 to the Magpies at the break.

The second half quickly saw Steven Hewitt extend Tumble's lead with a well struck penalty, making the score 13-22. Wing Mike Edwards then scored a try to stretch the lead to 13-27, theconversion going wide. Second row Ryan Williams was the next to go over for a try which was converted by Hewitt, 13-34 to the Magpies. Young centre Kian O'Reilly continued his recent rich try scoring form with another well taken score, which Hewitt again converted, 13-41. The final score of the game went to Tumble wing Mike Edwards who went over for his second try of the game bringing the score to 13-46. Despite some late pressure from St Davids, which resulted in two Tumble players being shown the yellow card, the 13 man Magpies held firm to secure a much needed victory. Potential progress in the Division 3 Cup now depends on a 5-point victory against Bryngoch and a defeat for Nantymoel against St Davids. We would then await the points difference Gods to do their calculations. Next Saturday the boys are back in league action when they welcome Betws RFC to Parc y Mynydd Mawr.  Another victory is much needed.
