Youth win at Llan

Friday evening saw Head Coach Selwyn Morgan take his Tumble Youth side back to former club Llangennech RFC to play their rearranged Carmarthenshire East Youth league fixture under the Friday Night Lights. The Magpies fielded a side with a good mix of experience from the three ages included within youth rugby and the boys didn’t disappoint with a comprehensive 10-33 bonus point victory.  After losing at home to Brynamman the previous week Tumble needed to bounce back and the boys had worked hard in the week during training to eradicate the errors that had been visible against the Amman Valley side.

Tumble starting the game stronger than their opponents with great recycling work by a strong young pack putting pressure on the Llan defensive line. This organised forward play and well drilled support saw the Magpies make territorial gains with each phase of play. This pressure inevitably brought the first of what would be five tries with powerful openside Aled John scoring his first try for his new club. It wasn't all one-way traffic however as the Llan defence worked hard all evening and they also put in some good counter attacking plays that kept the Magpie defence honest all evening. It took until just before half time for Tumble to breach the Llan defence and score their next try making it 0-12 at the interval. The halftime break gave the opportunity for the coaching team to give some encouragement to the team and iron out a few errors.

The second half saw Tumble turn the screw with their powerful scrum to the fore and prop Ashley Evans showing up well. Young hooker Owen Foster also had a fine game and seems to be having a personal battle with centre Cian Davies as to who will have the highest tackle count in the team. Lewis Moore at full back was another to catch the eye where his silky counter attacking runs won countless yards and he topped off a great individual performance with 4 out of 5 conversions. Backs coach Steffan Wyn Davies was especially pleased as his dedicated kicking coaching is having a positive effect on all kickers. Selwyn commented that he felt the team left a few more tries out on the park but overall was very pleased with the performance and the attitude of the players.

The coaches and the club would like to say a special thank you to all the support that came down to Llangennech from Tumble and the surrounding areas to cheers the team on.

No game next week with the boys next in action away against Cefneithin RFC in the Cup on 28th September.
