Youth lose out to Drovers

The Youth travelled up the Tywi Valley on Saturday afternoon to play Llandovery RFC in the Carmarthenshire East Youth League. A great battle ensued from the very first whistle with the young Magpies pressed into a defensive role which lasted the first 17 minutes, which saw Tumble finally yielding a try to the Drovers.  Not liking what he was seeing Tumble Head Coach Selwyn Morgan gave a rare behind the posts team chat to the Magpies team outlining the need to see an improved performance. The team took these words on board and from that point on it was totally different Tumble with the forwards, in particular showing their dominance with power play after power play. The resulting dominance kept the Magpies camped in Llandovery territory and from a typical line out drive Tumble scored with flanker Liam Jones going over for this third try of the season. Outside half Osian Evans added the extras with a well struck conversation. Scores were all level at 7-7 but half time came to soon for the lads wearing black and white hoops.

The rest of the game was an even battle but Llandovery were able to capitalise on Tumble mistakes to score two more tries. To their credit Tumble didn't give up and pressure was kept on the Drovers try line throughout the second half. Prop Rhys Tobias nearly powered his way over only for the referee to disallow the score, much to the objections of his teammates. Despite concerted pressure the Magpies were unable to cross the whitewash. The final whistle was sounded and judging by the delight shown by the Llandovery players, staff and supporters it was obvious they felt they had achieved a hard-fought victory.

Following the game, the coaches agreed that the Youth XV team deserved the win and are 1% away from ticking it off the wish list. Well done again boys and whilst the win wasn't quite there the performance was 100% commitment. Next week the boys welcome Llandeilo RFC to Parc y Mynydd Mawr, kick-off 2.30pm. Come and support the boys.
