The Magpies welcomed league leaders Penclawdd RFC to Parc y Mynydd Mawr on Saturday afternoon in Division 2 West looking for points to kick-start a so far disappointing season. With conditions wet under foot and with a strong swirling wind Tumble were unable to match the accuracy, power and sharpness of the visitor's back line, who were constantly looking to create. Penclawdd eventually ran out winners by a margin of 21-48 but despite the scoreline there were positives to take from the game, against a side who have lost only one game all season and currently sit eight points clear of second placed Pembroke RFC. The boys never gave up and played some good stuff in phases with the line out functioning particularly well. With the scoreline 7-41 early in the second half it would have been easy to capitulate but to their credit the boys rallied and scored two more tries of their own through a penalty try and number 8 Callum Williams. These added to the first half try scored by full back Sam Jones and two conversions from outside half Mitch Jones. Unfortunately however a combination of inexperience and poor tackling in places put pay to hopes of getting something out of the game.
The boys now welcome third placed Tycroes RFC to Parc y Mynydd Mawr on Saturday afternoon in their final game before Christmas. It'll be another tough encounter but one the boys have to believe they are capable of getting something out of, kick-off is at 2.30pm come down the Parc to support the Magpies.
