The Magpies made the short trip to Tycroes RFC for their first league game of the season and despite a promising first half performance ran out 29-10 losers. After conceding an early converted try to Tycroes the Magpies came back into the game and scored a well worked try of their own after 10 minutes through skipper Steffan Owen. For the next 30 minutes Tumble dominated territory and looked the side most likely to score but the points never came and against the run of play Tycroes scored a try wide out on the left on the stroke of half time. Going into the break Tumble were unlucky to be 12-5 down, especially as there had been more than a hint of a forward pass in the build up to Tycroes' second try.
The second half was a different matter with Tycroes establishing themselves as the dominant side in the game. After nine minutes they extended the lead to 15-5 with a penalty before scoring a pushover try on 22 minutes to give them a commanding 22-5 lead. Centre Leighton McKenna, on his return to the team brought the score back to 22-10 on 35 minutes when he powered over for a try before Tycroes wrapped up the scoring on the final whistle with another converted try.
The Magpies now have a week to regroup themselves before welcoming Pontyberem RFC to Parc y Mynydd Mawr next Saturday in the Cwm Gwendraeth derby. Kick-off is at 2.30pm come and support the boys.
