The Magpies welcomed fifth placed Loughor RFC to Parc y Mynydd Mawr for their eighth league fixture of the season, still looking for their first win. A heavy and experienced Loughor side, containing the former Llanelli and Cardiff scrum half Steve Wake started brightly and took the lead with an early converted try. After 17 minutes Tumble were back on level terms when lively scrum half Iwan Morgan went over for a try that was converted by outside half and captain Steven Hewitt. A few minutes later Hewitt put Tumble into the lead for the first time in the match with a penalty to make the score 10-7. After 34 minutes Loughor scored their second try of the game, the conversion being missed to make the score 10-12 in the visitors favor. On the stroke of halftime Tumble were awarded a penalty which Hewitt duely converted to make the score 13-12 to the Magpies at the break.
The question on the minds of the Tumble supporters during half time was whether the Magpies could capatalise on their lead and hold out for that elusive first league win. Five minutes into the second half Tumble found themselves 23-12 up through a second try from scrum half Morgan which was converted by Hewitt, who also added a penalty soon afterwards. A Tumble transgression a few minutes later saw Loughor awarded a penalty which they slotted over to bring the score back to within eight points, 23-15. Tumble were again pressurising the Loughor defence when centre Steffan Price broke through and sprinted in at the corner for an unconverted try. Playing with more confidence Tumble again put pressure on the Loughor defence which allowed Hewitt to weave through the opposition defence for a try which secured the bonus point. Hewitt nailed the conversion of his own try to make the score 35-15 to the Magpies with only five minutes to go. There was however time for one more try, when on the verge of full time full back Stephen Mills dived over to put some more gloss on the win.
This was a fantastic effort from the boys and a well deserved win. Hopefully the confidence will now start to grow seeing that the elusive first win has now been acquired. Tumble stay level with Amman United who also had a fine bonus point win, 50-24 at home to St Clears.
It doesn't get any easier as next weekend the Magpies welcome league leaders Hendy RFC to Parc y Mynydd Mawr, kick off 2.30pm. Come and give the boys your support - Ymlaen Y Piod.
