Table topping Hendy must have arrived at Parc y Mynydd Mawr confident of maintaining their impressive start to the season against a Tumble side that started the afternoon in eleventh position in Division 2 West. What they encountered was a Magpies side buoyed by last weekend's victory against Loughor that belied their lowly league position and made the visitors work hard for their 13-20 victory. After the kick off was delayed by 30 minutes to allow referee Robert Mota to arrive after getting caught in traffic on the M4 Hendy started the game strongly and they only had to wait three minutes before former Magpies centre Josh Davies went over for an unconverted try wide-out. Ten minutes later Hendy extended their lead when they went over for a carbon copy try out wide in the right-hand corner, the conversion was again missed to make the score 0-10 to the visitors. Twenty minutes into the half Tumble captain Steven Hewitt kicked a penalty goal to bring the score back to 3-10 but on the verge of halftime Hendy scored their third try of the game, the conversion was added to make the score 3-17 to Hendy.
The second half was an even affair with both sides having chances to score. Tumble broke the deadlock when centre Steffan Price broke through the covering defence and handed off Hendy centre Davies to score a classy try. Hewitt slotted over the conversion to make the score 10-17. Seven minutes later Hendy were awarded a penalty which was converted to make the score 10-20. Tumble were pressurising the visitors try line but a combination of a stern defence and the lack of a killer pass saw Hendy hold out. Another Tumble attack late in the game saw them awarded a penalty which Hewitt duly converted to bring the score within 7 points for the losing bonus point. Two minutes later referee Mota blew the final whistle to see the Magpies move a point ahead in the table of Amman United who lost against Carmarthen Athletic without picking up any bonus points.
Tumble now have a week's break for Christmas before facing Pontyberem away on 30th Decemeber for the Cwm Gwendraeth derby. The game kicks off at 2.30pm, come down to Pontyberem to support the boys.
