The Magpies made the trip to third placed title contenders Pontarddulais RFC on Saturday high in confidence after wining two out of their last three games, including last weekend's derby at Pontyberem RFC. The game started off badly for the Magpies when within 5 minutes influential flanker and vice-captain Steffan Owen was sent to the sin-bin for 10 minutes after receiving a yellow card. Tumble recovered and were playing well against their higher placed opponents when after 20 minutes Pontarddulais scored an interception try under the posts to take the lead against the run of play. The conversion was surprisingly missed to give the home side a 5-0 lead. The Magpies continued to pressurise the Black and Ambers defence but could not get on the scoreboard despite being adjudged to have been held up over the try line. The referee sounded the halftime whistle with the score still 5-0 to Pontarddulais.
The second half started with Tumble again playing well and pressurising their higher placed opponents. The Magpies were however caught by a sucker punch after 45 minutes when a lucky bounce of the ball saw Bont go over for their second try of the game. The conversion was again missed to give Pontarddulais a 10-0 lead and the Magpies a mountain to climb. The Magpies must have drawn comfort from the home game back in September when after having gone 37-nil down they attempted a comeback of biblical proportions, scoring 4 tries and almost 2 others in an attempt to win the game. Pontarddulais were now finding it hard to contain the strong running of makeshift centre Jac Edwards and after 60 minutes his midfield partner Steffan Price dived over for a try. Outside half and captain Steve Hewitt slotted over the conversion to bring the score back to 10-7 with 20 minutes to play. Eight minutes later the score was back on even terms, 10-10 after Hewitt dissected the posts with a penalty goal. Tumble were now throwing everything at their opponents and nine minutes later young prop Conner Allen charged over for a try to make the score 10-15 to Tumble and give them the lead for the first time in the match. The conversion was missed but it didn't matter when the referee blew the final whistle five minutes later giving the Magpies a deserved victory and their third win in four games.
