The Magpies are just one win off clinching the Admiral National League Division 3 West B title following a 80-0 thrashing of Bynea at Parc y Mynydd Mawr on Saturday afternoon. With a number of regular players unavailable or injured the Magpies rotated their squad making seven changes in the starting 15 from the team that accounted for Trimsaran the previous weekend. Outside half Richard Davies taking over as skipper from the absent Steffan Price. Flanker Owain Davies came in for his first league game of the season and Youth players Celt Llewelyn-Jones and Morgan Scrace featured on the bench. Tumble were 14-0 up within a matter of five minutes through tries from scrum half Iwan Morgan and wing Elis Lewis, both of which were converted by the trusty boot of experienced full back Steven Hewitt. Bynea couldn't complete with the pace and power of the Magpies side who added another try on 17 minutes through the live wire scrum half Morgan before hooker Dafydd Humphreys powered over seven minutes later, Hewitt dissected the uprights with both conversion attempts to make the score 28-0 and secure the all important bonus point within the first 24 minutes of the game. Bynea were now on the ropes and couldn't live with the pace, power and movement of a rampant Tumble side. Full back Hewitt crossed the whitewash for a brace of tries, both of which he converted himself, 42-0 with just over half an hour played. Next over the try line was scrum half Morgan to secure his hat trick, Hewitt again converting before on the brink of half time returning flanker Owain Davies stormed over for a try which he converted himself. 54-0 to the Magpies at the interval and the Bulldogs of Bynea dreading the second half.
The second half was still in its infancy when electrifying Magpies wing Elis Lewis went over for his second try of the game. The conversion attempt went narrowly wide to make the score 59-0. The intensity and tempo of the game dropped slightly as it took 10 minutes for the next try to come, again from wing Lewis to secure his hat trick, Hewitt added the extras, 66-0. Full back Hewitt became the third Tumble player to clinch a hat trick when he went over on 70 minutes, again he added the conversion to make the score 73-0. Final say of the game came in the closing stages when wing Elis Lewis went over for his fourth try of the game, his 12th of the season. Replacement Nate Richards, playing his first home game for the 1st XV slotted over the conversion to complete the scoring, 80-0. Special mention in terms of performance to Steven Hewitt, Iwan Morgan, Jack Tucker, Ashley Evans and Owain Davies. Man of the match goes to wing Elis Lewis, whose pace Bynea couldn't live with.
With Trimsaran wining at Llangadog the title race goes down to the last game away against Betws RFC, unless Trim lose either of their two remaining matches at home to Llandybie and Llandeilo. Tumble's game at Betws is yet to be rearranged following the home team calling it off a few weeks.
