In the baking heat of Saturday afternoon Llanelli RFC visited Parc y Mynydd Mawr for the first time since our centenary season of 1996-97. The Magpies, minus a number of players from last season’s league wining squad found their Welsh Premiership opposition too hot to handle with Llanelli running to a 15-94 victory. Tumble did however contribute to the game and had some nice periods of play which included going over for three well taken tries through prop Liam Willard, captain Steffan Price and replacement flanker Steffan Owen, who was playing for the first time since breaking his leg in February. A number of players graduating from the youth team and a couple of new signings also made their debut for the first team which was again pleasing. Llanelli also fielded some local talent and it was nice to see Tal Rees and Luke Davies contribute greatly to the game. Not a great result but a great day for the club and the village. It was also great to see our mini teams playing a curtain raiser prior to kick off showing the future of the club and rugby in the village.
We would like to thank Llanelli for honouring us with agreeing to play this fixture in our 125th anniversary year. We would also like to thank all that came and supported the event, all money raised will go towards the onward development of the club. Next week the Magpies continue their preseason schedule with a visit to Cardigan RFC.
Finally a massive thanks to our match sponsor - ALX Construction. Your support is greatly appreciated.
