This week we travel up to Taffs Well and having played them 4 times last season, losing every time away and wining comfortably at home we knew we had a big game ahead of us.
Whistle goes, and Taffs Well kick off to us. We receive but find ourselves pinned down on our 10m line. That is until right angle Mel makes and appearance, she spots a slither of space on the left wing, true to form goes the width of the pitch first and then looks to tackle the length. Maybe Taffs Well did some research and have read our reports, or maybe they read the situation well- we’ll never know- but their 15 tailed right angle Mel from the half way line, looking sure to gain on her right up to the try line. Score 0-5. Gemma adds the second 0-10. The 25 minutes that followed these two tries was a gigantic defensive effort as Taffs Well were relentless in their attack. They have us pinned on our try line, scrum after scrum, line out after line out and still we held strong, still Taffs Well came at us. Our scrums are strong and we push them back. We kept them out, we kept them at zero points. Just before half time having turned over the ball, Piods capitalise and Darcy, making it look easy, runs in a try from our half. Whits adds the extra two and score stands at 0-17.
Second half kicks off and the Hardy sisters team up effortlessly as Whits scores first and adds the conversion, only for Darcy to follow with the second and Whits once again adds the conversion. 60 minutes on the clock and the score stands at 0-31. We kept them out for 60 minutes but Taffs Well continue to come at us, and eventually they are rewarded with 5 points. A series of injuries disrupt play and we lose momentum. 5 minutes before the final whistle and Taffs Well cross the line for a second time. Final whistle goes, final score 10-31.
