The first home game for youth since end of December didn't disappoint. Brynamman brought a strong side to Tumble and pushed hard all the way to the end. The first half performance was by far the best the Magpies have played this season, defence was strong and constantly readjusting to suit the attack, discipline was kept throughout the game and attack came through patient phase play. Elis Lewis scored a trademark try with pace, this was followed by power and set play from line-out drive with Captain Tomos Raymond touching down although the move should of seen Osian Flint over the line but the ball didn't seem to work all the way back!!!! Morgan Davies added one conversion to place Tumble 12 nil the good going into half time.
Brynamman were not finished though and a lack of communication in the Tumble backline when dealing with a kick saw the Greens score a try a feat that was repeated ten minutes later. At 12 -12 it was all to play for and Tumble showed their power with another driving maul that moved the Magpies from inside their own half all the way to Brannaman’s try line. Panic defence saw the maul brought down which saw Osian Flint break away from the resultant ruck and provide a pop pass to which was couldn’t be gathered when the try looked certain. With the territory gain and through patient Tumble pressure number 8 Harry McBryde was able to get the try which won the game 19-12.
The Man of the Match award was earned by young winger Taylor Stone who was up against a Scarlets age group winger but he never gave him an inch with great commitment in defence.
Coaches Viewpoint: Proud to see the team’s hard work paying off and great to have a good support on the touchline.
The Youth travel to Furnace United for a league fixture this coming Saturday, kick-off 2.30pm.
