The Magpies travelled to Llandybie RFC on Saturday afternoon for their first fixture of the 2022-23 season in Admiral National League Division 3 West B. Showing a number of changes from the team which clinched the league and West Wales Plate double last season Tumble gave competitive debuts to youngsters, wing Dafydd Thomas, centre Kian O'Reilly and prop Will Roberts. The game turned out to be a scrappy first game of the season, with all the hallmarks of a typical local derby. Tumble finished the first half with a 5-12 lead courtesy of two tries from wing Michael Edwards and number 8 Nathan Willard, with one conversion from the trusty boot of outside half Steven Hewitt. The second half saw Tumble go over for another try from replacement flanker Dafydd Griffiths which was converted by Hewitt. Hewitt also added a penalty to complete the scoring for the visitors and secure the 4 points. Final score 12-22 to the Magpies. Standout Tumble performances came from wings Michael Edwards and Dafydd Thomas plus scrum half Iwan Morgan. Man of the Match goes to young centre Kian O’Riley who on his debut who made a number of strong carries in the midfield. A tidy performance in patches with a good defensive effort but the players and coaches will be working hard on the training field this week in preparation for the visit of near neighbours Cefneithin RFC to Parc y Mynydd Mawr next Saturday for a Cwm Gwendraeth derby, kick off 2.30pm.
