Tumble made the trip to Swansea to play fellow Division 2 West club Mumbles RFC in the first round of the National Plate on Saturday afternoon having made a number of line-up changes due to injury, unavailability and squad rotation. Underhill Park is a notoriously difficult place to get a result and the much changed Magpies were well beaten 55-5. With a number of unfamiliar combinations in key positions mix-ups in Tumble's defensive organisation was exposed on a number of occasions by the hosts who led 27-0 at half-time. Whilst there were a couple of opportunities to score the Magpies' sole points of the game came from prop Emyr Evans who drove over wide out on the right to score his first try since joining the club in the summer. The boys have to be commended for fulfilling the fixture, unlike a number of other clubs in the Plate competition and playing competitive scrums throughout the game with four senior front row players missing from the squad.
Next weekend the focus is back on the league and the trip to high-flying Burry Port RFC, the coaches will be hoping to have a full-strength squad available for selection. Kick-off is at 2.30pm, come and support the boys.
