Deri fighback to take win against Piod Pinc

The Piod Pinc took on Deri for the fourth and final time this season at Parc y Mynydd Mawr on Sul y Mamau. Having lost all 3 previous games to this strong Deri team, we knew what had to be done. The Piods fielded one of our strongest teams this season which included 8 of our amazing mothers. The whistle goes, and we kick off regaining the ball and playing the first 10 minutes in Deri’s 22. A high tackle saw Deri down to 14 players for the next 10 minutes and Hannah Stephens slotted the ball between the posts for the 3 points. 25 minutes into the game and it’s 3-0. Louise Rees James almost crosses the line for what would have been her second try for the Piods but she’s brought down short of line, skipper Tina Thomas collects, powers over and dives down for her fourth try of the season. As she gets back on to her feet she looks skywards, rises her hand says ‘that one was for you mam.’ Conversion goes wide 8-0. It’s over 30 minutes into the game before Deri have ball in hand, going through the phases before running the ball in under the posts. Piods answer immediately from the kick off as Whitney Hardy runs her second try this season. Hannah Stephens adds the extra 2 points. Two more tires are scored before half time including a lovely solo try from Hannah Stephens and the score at half time is 22- 14 with everything to play for.

Piods are caught sleeping and Deri demonstrate why they are top of league as they run in 6 tries in 20 minutes leaving the scoreboard showing 22-50 with 20 minutes left to play. We regroup. The forwards keep possession of the ball and work hard to keep moving forward, we keep fighting on. Billie- Joe Alexander cannonballs through the Deri players. One boot on, one boot off Catrin Rees has players hanging off her but keeps moving forward. Amy Jones is giving away hand offs- for free! The ball makes it’s way out to Sam Copplestone on the wing and she runs in her third try of the season. We keep Deri out. With minutes left on the clock the Hardy sisters team up for the final points of the game as Whitney takes a quick tap, spotting a gap she advances across the gain line pops off to Darcy who runs it in under the posts, for her 18th try of season and bringing the final score to 34-50
