The Magpies traveled west to Division 2 West league leaders Whitland RFC in the second round of the National Plate and suffered a 38-7 defeat. Tumble sported a number of changes to their line-up to allow for player unavailability, injuries and squad rotation. The first half saw the Magpies compete with their, so far undefeated opponents and went into the break only 7-0 down and having had a number of chances to get on the score sheet themselves. The second half saw the Borderers up the tempo and utilise the number of strong and skillful runners within their line-up to break the Magpies defence after eight minutes with an unconverted try. Two more tries were scored by the Green and Whites before replacement Tumble scrum half Iwan Morgan powered over from close range after 30 minutes for a try which was converted by outside half and captain Steven Hewitt. Whitland scored two more tries including a break-away on the advent of full time which put an undeserved one sided gloss on the scoreline.
It's back to league action next weekend when the Magpies travel west to St Clears looking for points in an all important fixture. Tumble will be hoping to replicate the victory that they achieved away against the same opponents in the first round of the National Plate last month.
Scorers:
Try - Iwan Morgan
Conversion - Steven Hewitt
