The Magpies welcomed title contenders Tycroes RFC to Parc y Mynydd Mawr on a bright but windy Saturday afternoon and despite a promising start (where scrum half Iwan Morgan crossed in the corner for an unconverted try after five minutes) sank to a 12 - 25 defeat. Tycroes nudged their noses in front after 21 minutes when they converted the second of two penalties before a 12 minute period saw them go over for three tries, one of which was converted. The score at the break was 5 - 25 and whilst the Magpies' performance was not up to usual standard Tycroes were assisted in the last 20 minutes of the first half by a strong head wind which pined Tumble down in their own half.
The second half saw the Magpies, assisted by the wind at their backs pick up their performance level and with a dominant scrum number 8 Nathan Willard drove over for a close range try after 52 minutes which was converted by centre Leighton McKenna. The remainder of the second half saw both teams play out a stalemate with no further scores registered.
The Magpies will need to up their performance levels next week to ensure they gain an important win at bottom of the table Haverfordwest RFC.
