Tumble’s recent habit of allowing the opposition to build-up a lead before coming back into the game was their downfall at Mumbles on Saturday and saw them fall to a 22-14 defeat. Playing with the famous Underhill Park slope in the first half the Magpies started slowly and allowed Mumbles to build-up a 17-0 half time lead through three tries and a conversion. It looked ominous for the Magpies in the second half playing against the slope but Tumble turned the game around and started to have the upper hand in play. Captain and outside half Steven Hewitt started the comeback with a try which he also converted after 60 minutes. This was soon followed by a try from prop James Stephens, who was playing his first game of the season. Hewitt added the extras to bring the score back to 17-14 and have the lead within touching distance. Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be and Mumbles, who had looked dangerous on the break throughout the game scored a late try to make the score 22-14 and deny the Magpies a bonus point.
Tumble now have a week to recover and refocus before welcoming Amman United to Parc y Mynydd Mawr next Saturday in what looks like a must win game.
